Privacy Policy
Effective July 12, 2026
Monte ("Monte," "we," "us") is a personal-finance app for iPhone. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what we never do with it. The short version: your financial data exists to serve you inside the app — we don't sell it, and we don't share it for marketing.
What we collect
- Account information. Your email address (or Apple/Google sign-in identifier) used to create and secure your account.
- Financial data you connect. When you link a bank through Plaid, we receive account balances, transactions, and liability details (such as APRs and statement balances). Monte never sees or stores your bank username or password — credentials go directly to Plaid.
- Information you tell Monte. Facts you share in chat (for example an insurance deductible, employer 401(k) match, or account balances you add manually) are saved to your profile so Monte's guidance uses your real numbers.
- Documents you share in chat. If you attach a document (a pay stub, an insurance declarations page, a tax form), Monte reads it, extracts the relevant values into your profile, and does not store the document itself. The file is processed and discarded — we save the values, never the document.
- Phone number (optional). Only if you opt in to the daily text brief. See the SMS section below.
- Purchase state. Subscription status is managed by Apple and RevenueCat; we store whether your account is entitled to Monte Pro. We never see your payment card.
How we use it
- To run the product: budgets, the Wealth Ladder, insights, and cloud backup of your data so a lost phone never means a lost ledger.
- To answer your questions: when you ask Monte something, the relevant slice of your data is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate the response. Anthropic does not use this API data to train its models.
- To send the messages you asked for: the daily text brief via Twilio, if you opted in.
What we never do
- We never sell your personal or financial data.
- We never share your data with third parties for their marketing or advertising.
- We never execute trades or move money. Monte advises; only you act.
SMS / text messaging
The daily text brief is optional and off by default. You opt in inside the app by entering your phone number and enabling "Daily Text Brief" (Settings → Notifications). Message frequency is one message per day. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to cancel at any time and HELP for help, or turn the toggle off in the app. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
See the full SMS Terms & Conditions.
Service providers
We use a small set of processors, each only for its job: Supabase (database and authentication), Plaid (bank connections — see the Plaid End User Privacy Policy), Anthropic (AI responses), Twilio (text messages, if opted in), RevenueCat and Apple (subscriptions).
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access to your records is scoped to your account; Monte's AI answers are generated per-request from your own data and are never shared across users. You can require Face ID to open the app.
Your data, your call
- Export. Settings → Privacy & Security → Export My Data gives you your data in a portable file.
- Delete. Deleting your account in the app permanently removes your data from our servers.
Children
Monte is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we'll note it here and update the effective date.
